 THE STATE OF OGITECH SU – MISPLACED PRIORITY.

On September 2, 2024 an HND Aspirant wrote to the Rector of Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa concerning the increment of

tuition fee and on 6th of September he wrote to the Students’ Union on the same issue but unfortunately

they were unable to give a response which angered several students, parents and ex-students; students

were expecting to be addressed by those who are representing them.

Fast forward to Thursday 12th of September, The Student’s Union Electoral Committee began sales of

forms for the coming election which the Union did not have a problem with until it got to the stage that

does not favour the aspirants of their choice. The SUECO is an independent body concerned with making

electoral decisions but the Union, especially the Speaker, Adikpe Happiness, felt entitled to decide for the

SUECO in fact he went as far as exchanging words with the Dean of Students’ Affair like he was a

toddler on 16th of September while the screening results was being collated.

After the screening resulted was disseminated, he immediately released a communique to kick against the

screening process in fact he stated that SUECO was compromised, the same body that he formed and in

the process, he threatened the Management Staff and also falsified the report written in his communique.

The President of the Union, Sanusi Oluwaleke, abused the Union letterhead disrespecting the students he

could not address during the issue of the hike in tuition fee but use the same letterhead to write that the

Election Screening process was compromised because the aspirants of his choice were (rightfully)

disqualified; misplaced priority!

On Tuesday 17th of September, when the QUALIFIED aspirants were supposed to visit Ota for DSS

Screening, the Speaker together with supposed leaders of indigenous association brought out the SPC

Mace. This is not only unwarranted but also a stain to the names of those who fought for the Union in the

past; Hon. Adikpe Happiness is a disgrace to Unionism!!!

It was glaring to the entire students of the school that the Union that is supposed to represent their interest

is now fighting to illegally get their girlfriends qualified so that they can find a means to cover up their

embezzlement of Union fee. It is no longer news to students of OGITECH that Sanusi led administration

has failed them and Adikpe led Parliament has done nothing but be figure heads since assuming office.

It was alleged that the Parliamentary and Executive arms of the Union even threatened the SUECO

Chairman while some students even said that the SUECO Chairman was allegedly abducted so that the

CEC and SPC can find time to manifest their selfish interests and they eventually found a way to

jeopardize the whole process.

It makes one wonder that if the Union can come together to fight so that some undisciplined and

uncultured students can be wrongfully qualified, is there no hidden motive behind this action of theirs? Is

their going to war with the management staff just to have a say in the coming election not a stunt to make

sure their loyalists attain office in order to continue with their failure?

An administration that could not bring out the mace to call for sitting is carrying mace to preside over an

election which they are supposed to not interfere in. They have not fought to get “actual” students

qualified but to get their girlfriends and loyalists into the seat of power. The Union that could not buy a

single block to continue with building of Union Secretariat but to beg the management for help is

shouting that management staff is interfering in election. This is not an administration but a disgrace to

Students’ Unionism.
